Aims and Scope (can also include journal history if desired)
New Labor Forum is a hybrid popular-scholarly journal housed at the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies. Published three times a year, it is a venue where labor intellectuals debate new ideas about the challenge of building organized working-class movements in the twenty-first century. Issues we explore include the relationship between global economic dynamics, the organization of work, and workers’ movements; the strategic dimensions of union organizing in a changing political, economic, and legal environment; the strengths and limitations of existing and alternative models of worker organization given the evolving structure of employment; opportunities for and obstacles to solidarity within a fragmented working-class; the relevance of social and economic policy to labor strategy; and the role of culture in a revitalized labor movement.
Our target readership consists of leaders and organizers in the labor movement; rank-and-file workers, community activists, and students committed to the cause of worker and economic justice; and labor researchers and scholars. We publish cutting-edge analysis that is clearly written and accessible to a broad audience.
